This blog is intended to trace some basics to using a camcorder & editing your videotape which should be about a certain topic. I've chosen "Cycling to Bronte" as a sample topic. More topics should follow.

Setting up a Video Shoot
Please watch the video on Framing your scene. I want to encourage all videographers to choose their backgrounds carefully. If they have a background with many people walking through- I suggest you find a substitute. Use the elements of composition when choosing a background. Where your subject stands is important (can be to the side or centre). To the side is normal when reporting an incident and the viewer wants to see what's going on behind (but be careful not to choose action that is more interesting than your commentary!) Don't be upstaged by what you're talking about.
Also remember the rule of thirds (looking for interesting 3's, triangles, centre of interest) texture, lines, and other elements. Remember to light your subject from behind the camera or to the side. You may also want to use the shade. Be certain you adjust your WHITE BALANCE accordingly.

ECD Video Production Class:
Our Class has four priorities:
1) Plan, possibly script, prepare for video productions (eg: Grad Day, Remembrance Day, Friday's Interest show, etc)
2) Shoot raw video footage in a technically suitable way (taking care of "types of shots" camera angles, lighting/framing, etc)
3) Edit the raw footage in an aesthetically pleasing manner (choosing the best shots, give it an upbeat pace, text, transitions, etc)
4) Provide the school with videotaped ECDTV62 morning news in as professional manner as possible (eg: add weather, sports, what's up?, video clips, etc)

Day One: Hang on to your pants!
Ok, now it's time to get blogging. First I will attempt to bring everyone up to date on what we've covered in Video Production class, and what we need to accomplish.
For each student's Video Production Blog, I would like them to add their V-logs, photos, and other items that have been covered in class. For example, you can already add your v-log intro with a new v-log entry (on what you've learned in class so far), as well as the soccer short, and new clips from the pep rally. You can also add your assignment (Announcement intro, "Through the Door" and the Friday interest show). Get blogging! I'm looking forward to viewing your blogs.
